Follow along on our 40-acre farm and sled dog kennel, in rural northern lower Michigan. We're not fancy...just folksy...and giving God all the GLORY. Husband and wife, equally yoked, as stewards of His land, knowing "Less is (truly) More"...

What's Going On... in Gobbler's Knob?

As most of you know, today, February 2nd, is Groundhog Day.

Punxsutawney Phil pokes his head out and looks for his shadow.

If he sees it, he will go back into his hole for the remainder of the winter.
Six more weeks.

No shadow?  He will declare it as a sign of spring!

OK, Western Pennsylvania is one thing.
What about northern Lower Michigan?

If he were at Russ-Stick Acres, what would he see?

Shadows?  We've got 'em.

Yes, winter is long.

But we wait all year for this...

There's another saying by American 19th century farmers.

Groundhog Day = Half your Hay.

But seriously, summer is right around the corner.

You say you scoff at Punx Phil?  Just a bunch of phooey?

Not so.

In 1986 he got to meet with President Ronald Reagan.

Punx Phil also appeared on Oprah in 1995.

Punx Phil knows the story...

Either way, we'll be here.
(And I'm still here too!  I'll keep checking in when I can...)

Until tomorrow ~ Shadow or No Shadow ~ God willing,

Woodswoman

If he sees his shadow, it's six more weeks of winter. Otherwise, it's only a month-and-a-half!
