Wringer Wash Day

It's back...

The time of year that clothes can be done in open air.

I love using my wringer washer.

A gift from my good friend, Ellen.

One I treasure.

I love watching it, hearing it, and being part of the process.

From start to finish.

Topping it off with fresh dried clothes on the line,
suspended by wooden clothespins.

(Today I did two loads.)

One of summer's many sweet gifts.

Until tomorrow, God willing.

People think I am crazy, but I love washing clothes with my James washer. And the ringer is the best part! It is so very soothing.

loving this post.
It brings back so many memories as a young girl with my great Aunt, so thank you.
Wishing I had one, something so calming about it.

Fabulous pictures! You have a way of capturing things through that lense~ feelings and memories and nostalgia and so much more all wrapped up in a single picture!

My mom used a wringer washer when we were little girls. I am sure her memories are not as fond of it as mine are:))

Does you machine have a hand wringer? I remember my mum had one that you had to turn a handle as the clothes went through. Our was a Simpson machine.
Please do keep posting. Stan

Isn't it wonderful that a simple thing as a washing machine can bring back so many wonderful memories from time spent with aunts, mothers, grandmothers...will our children have that today? I pray so. The James Washer that Jane was referring to might be just the ticket too. Here's a link: http://www.realgoods.com/product/home-outdoor/household/laundry/james+washer.do

We also have a little washer that is table top. I will introduce you this summer.

Again, thank you for the kind comments. I really appreciate them.

Ok, I would like to have one, but I have questions - I pray you don't mind.

1. the water comes directly from an attachment or do you fill the drum first then plug in to wash?
2. obviously you are the one that controls when the water is coming out of the drum - right? or is there an attached hose that you unplug and the waste water comes out?
3. do you then add clean water to rinse?

Let me know...my dry goods lady is selling one and I am very tempted to buy it!

Sure Mrs. M. ~ I'll explain mine. Mine is somewhat different, because I use it outside, and use a separate garden water hose to fill it. I do like you said...fill the tub, put in the clothes as it is filling. Once clothes are washed, I then drop the hose (the one attached to the washer) to let the water run out. Once out, I lift it and hook it on the washer again. I then fill it again with clear rinse water and swish. Then I release the water again and then wring clothes through. HOWEVER, since I read this the other day, I'm going to do things a little different and try it like this article says...and use the soapy water a couple times. We'll see... http://countrylife.lehmans.com/2009/05/14/wringer-washer/ If I were you, I'd snag it ~ you won't be sorry!!

Ho! what a beautiful antiques
Did you ever get anything caught in a wringer?or ruined a couple of shirts?

Sherry Sutherby http://russ-stickacres.blogspot.com/ said...

Thank you Ane ~ no, nothing ruined yet. I tuck buttons and zippers within the fabric when going through the wringer. But then I normally am doing "farm clothes" where it wouldn't matter anyway. ~:)
