Apology Tour

-->

As I fried up a big breakfast this morning {red potatoes with onions, and scrambled home-laid eggs smothered with Cheddar and Feta cheese, dotted with green pepper, along with our home-grown bacon and fresh Amish-gifted wholewheat bread}, I smiled looking at the dozen or so frozen sled dog harnesses thawing over the woodstove in our 15 x 20 cabin.  Yes, our life isn’t ordinary.

But it is good.

For years, upon the arrival of tour guests from literally all over the world, I would shrink and raise a pointed finger with hesitation when asked, “So, do you live near here?  to which I would point to our cabin, adjacent to the dog yard to the North.  Then, as expected, I would hear “…Huh…really…?”

Upon hearing their response, I always felt I would have to bolster up my living situation, making it appear larger than it was.  Yes, I fell victim to the ever present “apology tour”.

But something changed over the years.  As the small cabin got older, I aged with wisdom.  This was my home.  But was it?  My true home isn’t on this earth.

Now, when folks ask, as they always do…I say with pride “Yep, that’s our cabin over there.”

I still get the “…Huh…really…?” but I smile; for I know my treasures aren’t stored up on earth, they await me in heaven.

Matthew 6:20
"Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal."

Blessings to all, until next time, Lord willing ~

P.S.  We've been very busy with our dog sledding tour business since Christmas.  However, I'll check in as much as possible, dear friends.

What Does Spring Mean to You?

We are down to six hens, after selling off our excess flock.
{Ironically we have 3 roosters...
2 are "free" to farm folks if you are in the neighborhood.}

And have more eggs than we need.

Less is more.
God is good.

The chickens {and bunnies} are enjoying spring.

And so am I.

However, with it, brings "wanderlust"...

I get it every Spring,
after being in a 15 x 20 cabin,
without TV or Internet over the long winter months.

This year, it's off the charts...

The urge to travel to Amish country is strong.

I can't seem to fight the urge.

But soon, I'll be visiting again.

Picking up piglets.

And lambs.

I love Amish folks...and how they do business.

Until tomorrow, dear friends, God willing.

My New Normal

I'm here...

It's a struggle to communicate from "town", but I'm finally getting it right.

I'm not a whiz on these things...
computers, getting photos on other computers, and all that entails.

But that being said...
stay tuned...
I'll be sharing what it's like to live on our "40 acres" without
Internet, or TV, or a fancy phone.

Ironically, the silence brings out more than you can ever imagine...

Until then,
I miss each and every one of you.

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing;
but I have called you friends,
for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”
 John 15:12-15

Until tomorrow dear friends, God willing.

Less is More - in action

That's pretty much our motto around here..."Less is More"...

Well, now, more than ever, we are putting this theory into action.

This week we sold Rachael and Levi.

We will miss having our pair, but reports are coming back on their new surroundings.
Levi now has 6 girls to keep happy, and Rachael has made friends with a big doe.

And in the process, we met an amazing couple who farm and are like-minded.

But wait...we're not done.

Traveler, pictured with young Jordan on his back, is also for sale.

We will miss him.  He's one of a kind.

But someone will have an amazing horse in the process.

We'll just have to wait and see what the Good Lord has in mind...
and who will ride Traveler down the road, to his new home.

Until tomorrow, less is more, God willing.

Summer Sunday Visitors

Each spring, horse travel begins.

Friends visit, greeted by Zip.

Enjoying a welcomed rest before heading further down the road.

Thirst is quenched.

Idle moments.

A peaceful day with best friends.

Like-minded folks.

Who enjoy the simpler things in life.

And know how to take things slow and easy.

We love our Sunday summers.

As always, God willing...

My Bliss is Here...My Time is Now

I happened to find this Blog I had written a year ago, almost to the day.
It brought me full circle, seeing that my time has indeed come.

I am now, like Tatonka, free to roam.

See the Blog I'm referring to...

Thank you Lord.  Thank you Lord...

If you are desiring change...take it to prayer.  Prayers are answered.

Miracles do happen.

I'm living proof.

Until tomorrow, God willing...

Saturday Sled Dogs

The week was one of work.

As it should be.

"All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."  Proverbs 14:23

But now, the weekend is here...

And it's time to play.

We hope you have a wonderful day playing, doing what you love most.

Less is More ~ Tale of a 4-dog Team

It's true.

Four sled dogs could take you 'round the world.

And back.

You need leaders with brains and dedication.

Who love spending time with you.

Those who may be little, but oh-so-mighty.

And those who have the soul of a sled dog.

We are blessed to have 5 such 4-dog teams.

It is purely our pleasure to care for them while on this earth.

Thank you Lord ~

Until tomorrow...God willing,

1/3 Living - Laughter

This past week has been difficult.
I'm saying goodbye to a lifetime of "clocking in".  Of being confined in an office setting.
A fellow co-worker, who has long since passed away, said it best...
"We're bureaucratic moles..."
We arrive to the office at dark, we leave at dark.
Doesn't leave much of a life.

I'm retiring from State employment.
From determining who's eligible for this and that...

The obligatory party is over.  Congrats are said.
Now the reality begins.

Upon arriving home Friday night from yet another party, it struck me.
I've been hiding under the guise of work.
Of being too busy to be "me".

But that comes to an end.  Here and now.
No more excuses.
No more looking in on life, but being too busy to participate.
No more "Weekend Warrior".

The time is near.  I'll soon be cut loose.
I'll be home.
I'll be plugged in.

After arriving home Friday night, teeming with emotion,
I trudged through the snow up to the Wee House, carrying a festive gift bag,
to open in the quiet of the night by the glow of the firelight.
It was from my dear friend, Mo.
Mo and I have a common bond.
Laughter.
Upon peeling back the tissue, I see she has given me a plaque, with a card to match.
Laugh until it Hurts.
Smiling, I placed it on the shelf over my computer to view daily in the coming years.
Laughter - it must be a component of my daily routine.
It won't be difficult, as my life partner and husband, Russ, is firmly rooted in laughter.
I hope it's not too late for me to get it back...seeing the joy in everything.
This new 1/3 Living is going to be tough, in so many ways,
but the joys and freedom it will bring should produce one sure crop.
Laughter.
And we plan to Laugh until it Hurts.

Stay tuned as we explore the ways to live on little, but have more.
Project "Less is More" is about to kick in on 1/3 Living.
