My Own Little World

Simply put, I love this time of year.
 The first snow.
Last night,
after traveling in the moonlight from our main cabin to my office in our Wee House,
I wrote this upon my arrival.

Snow beneath my feet,
I walked tonight in moonlight elegance.
Silent.
Pure.
White beauty clinging to every tree.
Welcome winter, welcome.

I had a difficult time turning in last night.
I couldn't close my eyes on the day.
My eyes were fixed on the outdoors, as the moonlight spilled through my windowed Wee.
The full moon lit up the countryside
and I wanted to see every activity that was taking place.
Our land had come alive.

I love the crows.

They are my alarm system, telling me what is going on inside my own little world.
Our 40 acres.

Upon waking early this morning, I found a winter wonderland.

I love the snow.  It insulates me.
Makes me want to turn within.
To hibernate.

I have to fight the urge to shut our gate, to close out the world.
For the snow makes me feel buffeted.
Warm fires, plentiful food.
 That is enough for me.

And a good book.
THE good book.
That is all one truly needs in life.

But one can't close out the like-minded friends and family
who come to share a visit, a story and a laugh.
They are also our nourishment.

Yes, we are truly blessed with the finer things of life.

One person pretends to be rich, yet has nothing;
another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
Proverbs 13:7
Until tomorrow dear friends, God willing.

So beautiful Sherry~ the words, and the pictures! You almost make me look forward to snow . . . you definitely make me look forward to one day having a little cabin on our 40 to retreat to. The hibernating mode is setting in here too~ hot chocolate, good books, and snuggling on the couch all sound good these days.

Wonderful words and thoughts Sherry - I, too, love the muffling, insulating, effect of a snowfall. But that I did not have to drive in it, I probably would appreciate for longer....Enjoy your wonderland....Smiles & Snowy Hugs ~ Robin

Beautiful pictures of your first snow. Love this post, and the reminder of the Good Book.

Thank you Godly ladies. I think the snow also represents the child-like wonder of the holidays, especially Christmas. And comfort food! Today, I've been keeping my little "Barbie" oven (I call it that because it is teeny-tiny...) going with banana bread and now scalloped potatoes. All these "instincts" just appear when the colder weather sweeps in, as you know!

Beautiful photos, as usual. Love the crows too-we have a family that nests in the pines across the road.....summer mornings I'm treated to their conversations as I putter in the garden. I can't think of a better way to start the day.

I don't know how you got the wonderful pictures of the crow... but I think everything on your acreage must be special. I know you're probably eager to get the dogs out in the snow!

It is nice to hear someone say positive things about winter! How refreshing!
Your pictures are beautiful. I like the grayness of the first few shots... and then the splashes of color from the chickens and the firewood.

Thank you everyone. I enjoy your comments more than you know. Yes, winter is a welcome season for us with the sled dogs. As for the crows...I've read they can tell if you like them, versus planning to cause them harm. Daily, I greet the family that lives here, and they are becoming more comfortable with my proximity. Amazing birds. They alerted me earlier in the summer to a pair of coyotes who were "casing the joint" in broad daylight. :~)
