What Does Spring Mean to You?

We are down to six hens, after selling off our excess flock.
{Ironically we have 3 roosters...
2 are "free" to farm folks if you are in the neighborhood.}

And have more eggs than we need.

Less is more.
God is good.

The chickens {and bunnies} are enjoying spring.

And so am I.

However, with it, brings "wanderlust"...

I get it every Spring,
after being in a 15 x 20 cabin,
without TV or Internet over the long winter months.

This year, it's off the charts...

The urge to travel to Amish country is strong.

I can't seem to fight the urge.

But soon, I'll be visiting again.

Picking up piglets.

And lambs.

I love Amish folks...and how they do business.

Until tomorrow, dear friends, God willing.

March... the Lamb cometh

I think my brain is finally catching up with my surroundings.

March started out like a lion...

...an angry lion.

But now...sultry, summer days have hit our "40".

85 degrees, over and over.

Days of Mustang training in the round pen now.

I'm enjoying this brief break in the chores.

For soon, it will be a "party of one"...
as hubby Russ and Raz head out on a 3-week trail ride.

I'm excited for them.

And for the opportunity for me to "hold down the fort".

I hope you are enjoying seeing March come to a close,
and summer follow suit.

Until tomorrow, dear friends. God willing.

First Day of Spring

Today is the first day of spring.

So hard to believe, with the temps being in the 80's this past week...

I'm not one to enjoy the heat, but I'm faring well.

My mind is on getting ready for summer.

And the next season of livestock.

And sheep.

And our upcoming CCW {click here...  (Carry A Concealed Weapon) }
class with brother,
Mike Slomkowski.
Hope to see you there...

And more horse training...

And trips to visit the Amish.

Their auctions...

And their way of life.

So many adventures await.

And Zip and I are ready to explore.

AND,
enjoy the quiet pace that only summer can bring.

Blessings to everyone, as you get ready for the next season of your life.

Until tomorrow, dear friends.  God willing...

Switching Gears

From this...

To this...

Hard to believe mushing season is over...

Until tomorrow, trying to "beat the heat", God willing.

Sap Camp

It's truly here...

Spring.

As evidenced by "sled dog" Skunk enjoying a run on the disappearing snow.

And Skunk and Zip enjoyed walking {and running} through our 40 acres to our "sap camp".

It was the first visit for young Skunk dog.  She enjoyed the sweet smell of sap.

We figured we'd visit, as hubby Russ is practically living near the boiling sap throughout the daylight hours.

One must be ever watchful as it boils into Maple Syrup.

We love feeling the warmth come on to the land.

And so do the dogs...

Until tomorrow, dear friends, God willing.

Spring has Sprung

Hard to believe...

A week ago, we were buried with snow.

And now, spring has sprung.
I love spring and the new life it brings.

We have baby bunnies all around our cabin.
Black.
White.
Precious.

Until tomorrow, dear friends, God willing.

P.S.  I hope you like my simpler Blog.
I have found that less is truly more, in all things, even Blogs.

Post Winter Storm

It came...

We coped.

And with the dog's help, we endured.
Skunk, hauling dog food and provisions.  Zip, cheering her on...
And Russ, on snowshoes.

We'll check in more, later.

Until tomorrow, dear friends, God willing.

Storm Prep (Siberian Style)

Word has it, we are due to get a foot or so of snow dumped on us tonight,
here in northern lower Michigan.

In preparation, chili fixin's are in the works.

And wood is being brought in to dry by the woodstove.

Hubby, Russ, likes to split wood all through the winter.

And sometimes, he has the dogs assist in the hauling.

Today was one of those days.

Jeff (aka Rock Star) was more than happy to assist.

The only distraction was the chickens.
See the rooster in the photo above?

So did Jeff...

But even with those distractions,
Russ and his buddy, Jeff, enjoyed their time together.

We hope you are faring well in these storms that are
hitting the nation.

Our prayers go out to you in those tornado-hit states.

"Be strong and courageous.
Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you.
He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6

Until next time, God willing.
