The Drifter

It's official.
I'm back home.

Home to blackberries coming on.

Also spent a day catching up with a dear friend, Joann, at her unique sled dog kennel,
Coyote Run Kennels.
Larry/Joann/ and Ana

I got to meet their new litter of pups.
8 total...4 of each.
Born on the 4th of July.
I never knew how much fun pups could have,
tugging and twisting on the hem of my skirt.  {...smile...}

I've missed my simple life.

And I've missed touching base with you.

Lots to report about getting back into the woods.
It's not cold enough yet to run the dogs,
but I'm doing a different kind of running.

On foot.
I took a step and became an official "fur harvester".

I'll spell it all out...soon.

Until then,
I'm looking forward to traveling to Clare {Michigan} tomorrow
on a
"girl's shopping trip - Amish style"
with some of my BBF's
(black bonnet friends
and driver/farm friend, Heather.

I'll catch up soon...Lord willing.
Until then, enjoy the end of August.

Our Dogs Our Life

Every sled dog kennel is different.

But, ironically, the dogs usually match the personality of the owner.

And pick up on the pace of the place.

We've worked real hard over the years to have a quiet, easy going kennel.

One where quiet and consideration of others is key.

Because, after all, they aren't the only rodeo in town.

We have other farm animals who need their peace and quiet too.

But once in a while, we get one that breaks the mold.

And is so happy to be here, they can't keep their feet on the ground.

The others watch, as if seeing a shadow of their former image.

Of days gone by.

Until tomorrow, always God willing...

3 in 30

It's true.

I've only left the long driveway that connects the outside world
to our 40 acres a total of 3 times in 30 days.

Upon coming home from my last day at the office on 12/29/10,
I've found little reason to leave since my retirement.

But 3 times, I was drawn away from home.

1.  To get our new dog, Rory.

2. To head to the Kalkaska Winterfest sled dog race as a spectator.
(To see old friends, such as Taylor Brehmer from Abrams, WI, along with new friends.)

3. To do a load (1) of laundry. (One is enough when you don't go anywhere.)

What...you say?

That sounds like drudgery, looking out your Wee House door, day after day.

The truth is...I've never experienced more freedom in my entire life.

I am directed daily by Him.

And He provides for me.
For us.

Sure, we work harder than ever.  But it's wonderful feeling grounded to the earth.
So grounded, I'm beginning to walk like a farmer.
So close to the earth, I hate to lift my feet.

Will I always stick close?

Perhaps.
My bliss is home.
No reason to leave.
I have a heavy dose of God's glory all around me.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world."
(Psalm 19:1-4; Psalm 97:6)

Rory's First Run

We have a new pup in the kennel.

Rory.

Yep ~ she's the pup in the middle.

So eager.

So willing.

So...sled dog.

First time out, and she's looking like a pro.

We love seeing new dogs fit in.

Welcome Rory...

We plan to have you in our team forever...

God willing.

And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Genesis 1:30
